New Version of Microsoft Security Essentials Now Available

You may have woken up this morning to find that your current version of Microsoft Security Essentials was updated, or at least requires an update update. If so, don’t be alarmed. Microsoft seems to have rolled out an update last night (around Midnight) that brought forth the latest edition of MSE. Here’s a couple screenshots of the update.

Don’t be alarmed if you see these two warnings, it’s simply because MSE is “turned off” while the install process occurs for a few brief seconds. Everything is restored and turned back on after the update.

You can compare the new build information (above) to the old one (below):

I haven’t found too many new changes, which seems natural, as this is a small update. The original MSE Version was 1.0.1961.0 which upgraded to 1.0.1963.0, and the Antimalware Client from 2.1.6519.0 to 2.1.6805.0. If there are any significant changes, I’ll let everyone know right away. However, even though there aren’t a lot of changes, I highly recommend upgrading right away, if anything else, you won’t have to deal with the nagging upgrade messages anymore. For whatever it’s worth, here’s a couple screenshots of the new version anyways.

As you can see, it looks like it’s the same old MSE that we’ve always had. Obviously something’s changed on the backend though.

If for some reason you’re not seeing the upgrade, you can manually update MSE by simply selecting the down-arrow next to the help-button (upper right corner) and clicking “Upgrade Microsoft Security Essentials…”

Hope everyone enjoys the new build!
